New Teacher in a New School Year Social Story
This social story is designed to help children adjust to a new teacher and classroom with ease. While change can feel overwhelming, the story offers reassurance and support by walking children through what to expect in their new environment. It emphasizes that while some things may be different, there will be exciting opportunities to learn, make new friends, and grow, while familiar aspects will remain the same to provide comfort.
The book contains spaces to fill in the name of the new teacher and other details to personalize the book to the specific child. You can either write in the details you want to add yourself or you can email me at: info@senresourcesource.co.uk and let me know the additions you want and I will do this for you.
What’s Inside?
Along with a 19-page social story, there’s also a shorter, adapted version with movable pictures to help engage children on each page.
Why Use This Social Story?
Social stories explain situations in simple, calm ways that are easy for kids to understand. They help children learn about social skills, expectations, and everyday situations. Social stories are especially helpful for kids on the autism spectrum or those who feel anxious when they don’t know what to expect.
How to Use This Story:
- Read it with your child in a quiet setting where you can focus together.
- Start by reading it twice with your child, then go over it regularly to reinforce the ideas.
- Try to include the story in your child’s daily routine.
- If the story is about changing a behaviour, read it when the behaviour happens (but not as a punishment).
- Give lots of praise and keep the experience positive.
To make the story last, you might consider putting it in a display book or laminating the pages for regular use.
